HOW DOES BOTTLED WATER TRANSLATE TO ENVIRONMENTALLY GREEN?

scales

For years, before green became trendy, Crystal Clear was doing their part. One five-gallon Lexan bottle can be used and refilled many times, reducing the so-called carbon footprint for bottled water. Five-gallon water bottles can be used for an average of five years, refilling them ten times per year (50 x 640 oz. 32,000 oz. divided by 16 oz. 2,000 small PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) bottles not going to the landfill).

“I think we are all going to keep drinking bottled water, and probably more of it. All ages are changing their habits from drinking large amounts of soft drinks to consuming more and more bottled water. Even though soft drink sales are going down, PET bottles continue to be in high demand as more small bottles of water are being sold. The United States appetite for small-packaged bottled water is not going to be reduced any more than the appetite for oil. Crystal Clear Water can supply homes and offices with the larger, refillable bottles where employees and family members can drink from reusable cups and glasses,” Thomas Heiken

Point-of-use systems for home and office

By using a point-of-use system, there is no bottling, no transportation cost, no bottles going to the landfill. It is either installed under a sink or in the basement in a home, or a breakroom at the office. It is not the same quality as bottled water, but, in many cases, will serve the purpose.

Whole-house water softeners for reducing minerals, odor and chemicals

Reducing the minerals in water extends the life of the water heater by reducing mineral buildup. It will also extend the life of the clothes washer, dishwasher, faucets, and plumbing. It also reduces the amount of soap and detergents needed. Whether you have a water softener or not, you are paying for it with increased energy, appliances, and detergent costs.

SAVING THE EARTH

Crystal Clear Water has been providing Iowans with pure, safe, and delicious bottled water for over 30 years, and we deliver our water in plastic bottles that range in size from 10 ounces to 5 gallons.

Plastic bottles make great water containers because they are light. But plastic bottles make terrible landfill because they never decompose—they remain plastic bottles forever.

If plastic is recycled instead of thrown away it can be re-used for a million different things. But plastic bottles tossed in the trash can only be used for one thing—terrible landfill. We at Crystal Clear Water urge our customers to recycle our bottles when they are empty to prevent them from ending up in a landfill.

Saving our Earth is a big task, and cutting down on needless waste is one way we can all comfortably contribute.

We urge you to:

  1. Recycle all your small bottles via your local recycling service. Call your waste management company to find out about how the program in your area works. Recycling won’t cost you a dime and will prevent plastic from filling up garbage landfills.

  2. Reuse small bottles two times in your home or office simply by re-filling them from our 5-gallon bottles. You will save money by cutting down on the amount of small bottles you purchase, and limit the overall number of small bottles used.

At Crystal Clear, we sterilize, refill, and reuse each 5-gallon plastic water bottle an average of 60 times before we cut it up and recycle it. This amount of bottled water in the standard ½-Liter (16.9 ounce) bottles would fill 2,400 bottles. So for every 5-gallon bottle we use, 2,400 small bottles could land in garbage landfills if people do not recycle.

Please reuse and recycle our small bottles. Our Earth needs our help.
